Cheryl Bowles Honored

Prior to Saturday's win over the Cardinals, a banner honoring jersey No. 24 which was worn by Zips great Cheryl Bowles was hung in the rafters of the venue. The All-American and all-time leading scorer competed for the Blue and Gold from the 1997-98 through 2000-01 seasons.
As a junior in 2000 Bowles became the Zips' first-ever first-team all-conference honoree and on Jan. 24, 2001 as a senior cemented herself as the premiere player in Akron history, becoming the school's all-time leading scorer. In her 115 game career Bowles totaled 1,712 points, surpassing the old mark of 1,544. For her senior season in 2000-01 she earned Honorable Mention All-Mid-American Conference accolades.
Bowles became the seventh player in Akron history to surpass 1,000 points in a career and was a Kodak Honorable Mention All-American, one of two All-Americans in program history. She was also a member of the 1998-99 squad that played in the Women's National Invitation Tournament.
