The University of Akron women's basketball team saw a program-record five student-athletes earn Academic All-Mid-American Conference recognition for the 2012-13 season.
Sina King, Hanna Luburgh and Rachel Tecca were named to the Academic All-MAC team, while Taylor Ruper and Carly Young received Honorable Mention.
"To have five of our players recognized by the MAC for their efforts in the classroom speaks volumes about our team," said head coach Jodi Kest. "We had an incredible season on the court, but we always stress the importance of academic success and it is great to see our student-athletes being rewarded for their hard work."
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
